Lectionary Reflections

for Children and Families

Third Sunday of Advent

November 29, 2026

Jesus said to his disciples: “Be watchful! Be alert!”

MARK 13:33-37

Reflect: Today Advent begins! Like Jesus’ disciples, we are watching for him as we get ready to celebrate his birth. We look for signs that remind us that he is with us.

Discuss: What changes do you see in the church today? What colors and symbols do you see? What did you hear at Mass? Did we do anything different today? What does it mean?

Do: Plan to count down the days to Jesus’ birth as a family, with an Advent wreath, Jesse tree, Advent calendar, or another fun tradition.

Some activities can be found on the NCCL Parents & Family Project site at ncclcatholicfamilies.org/resource-center/seasonal/advent

Pray: Jesus, help us to be alert and watch for signs of your presence with us as we prepare to celebrate your birth. Amen.
